Wrexham Anniversary Gala

The weekend of the 19th and 20th March saw City of Chester Swimming Club split two ways in the first competitive outing since the takeover of new Head Coach Lee Holland and his coaching team. The older end of the club travelled to Stockport on Saturday and then to Macclesfield for Sunday to complete the first weekend of the Cheshire County Swimming Championships. The young talent from the club travelled to Wrexham for the Wrexham anniversary meet under the guidance of Assistant Coach Don Bailey.

The 26 swimmers at Wrexham started their day, in what was for many their first competitive outing, and ended with a fantastic collection of performances, summing up to over 90% new personal best timed swims. There were a number of swimmers achieving finalist placings (top 8) and 2 medals:
Kyle Stubbs – 4th place – 100m Backstroke – 1m24.72s
Charlie Hopwood – 4th Place – 100m Individual Medley – 1m27.45s
Thomas Townsend – 4th place – 100m Backstroke – 1m26.51s and – 4th place – 100m Individual Medley  – 1m29.78s
Phoebe Thwaite – Bronze – 50m backstroke – 44.83s
Christopher Hooper – Gold – 50m Breast stroke 51.45s

The other swimmers  competing at Wrexham were Millie Riddick, Olivia Aylward, Sophie  Clarkson, Olivia Durnall, Isobel Gelder, Jessica Proctor-Crozier, Paige Cox, Lucy Osborne, Isobella Golding, Anna Plunkett,  Eleanor Shields. Abbie Townsend, Molly Fisher, Ben Cartwright, Brandon Hone, Allan Prossor, Henry May, Matthew Johnson, Lewis Franks, Daniel Weatherly and James Evans.

A big well done is deserved by all of the swimmers at Wrexham and the club is excited  at seeing these juniors grow to their full potential and hopefully continue to next year’s Cheshire Championships.
