Warm weather Training Camp - February 2012

On the 11th February 2012 COCSC took a Group of 24 swimmers to Torremolinos, Spain for one week on a warm weather training camp in the outdoor 8 lane 50m Pool at the regional sports complex.

The Camp consisted of 10 x 2Hr pool sessions led by Head Coach Lee Holland plus 9 x 1Hr Land training sessions, conducted half and half between the athletics track and the beach, led by Fay Brierley.

"During both pool and Land training the swimmers experienced hard work like they had never before encountered, I feel the sunshine on their backs made things a little more bearable!"

The effort levels during the camp were excellent from all parties and there were some fantastic results achieved during training, which then lead on to see the PBs fall at the Cheshire Championships 2 weeks later. 6 swimmers from Level 2 were invited to join the Level 1 swimmers on camp as an opportunity to test themselves as a precursor to movement and this certainly proved its worth as every one of these swimmers produced huge improvements in training and lifestyle choice on their way to becoming an elite level athlete.

The swimmers and parent volunteers that assisted with the camp fundraising helped raise more than £1000 towards the group total from events such as the Michael Rock Visit as well as the 12 hour sponsored swim on Sunday the 5th April. Alongside this many swimmers came up with original ways of raising funds including carol singing carwashing and dog walking to name a few!

In all I feel that the trip was a great experience for all involved and that the swimmers in attendance benefitted greatly and are continuing to do so. The Club are now looking into a camp that will involve the younger swimmers somewhere in the UK as one of its next projects after the success of the Torremolinos camp.
