2008 Cheshire & Warrington Young Sports Achiever of the Year

The nominations for ‘young sports achiever of the year’:

  • Sarah Eaglesham representing Chester

Winner – Sarah Eaglesham

Sarah’s biography: “Sarah has been a member of the City of Chester Swim club for the past six years. She trains up to 18 hours per week in the pool and 3 dry land sessions. During 2008 Sarah has become one of best swimmers Cheshire and the North West has ever seen. Here are a few of her outstanding results and rankings:-

  • 17 Cheshire County Records broken.
  • 4th in the B Final 50 freestyle at The British Olympic Trials.
  • Scottish team member June 2008 Solvian International
  • GB International for European Junior Swimming Champs, Belgrade Aug 2008.
  • Placed 12th the 50M Backstroke and set the Scottish Age Group Record. (Record pending).
  • Cheshire County team member. Freestyle and Backstroke.
  • County Champion in 10 events.
  • Gold medal winner at Northwest Swimming Champs in Freestyle and Backstroke. Senior and Age Group.
  • 20 Club Records broken. Some have stood since the 1980s.
  • Ranked number one in the UK for the 15- 16 years olds.

Sarah has recently returned from the Northern Counties Swimming Championship where she won Gold in 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle (Juniors), 400 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 50 fly, she also achieved a Silver medal in the 200 freestyle senior race being narrowly beaten by Olympic medallist Sarah Anne Palyn, she also won bronze in the 800 meters freestyle where she swam from the outside lane to take bronze with a 6 second personal best.

During this very successful year Sarah has been able to keep up with the school work and is currently studying for her A levels. She takes part in school sport and represents her school in swimming, track and field and Volleyball. She is also taking her Sports Leaders Awards and volunteers at the club by helping new swimmers with improve their skills. Because of her profile she has become a role model to many young primary school students and always has time to help other team mates both in the pool and out of the pool.”
