City of Chester Masters Light up Blackpool

Saturday 3rd July saw the annual North West Masters Swimming Championships, held in Blackpool, the Championships bought Swimmers together from all over the North West and Swimmers of all ages, from 18 to 80. The meet was very relaxed and enjoyable for all the Swimmers competing, this atmosphere helped produce some fantastic swims and some impressive results.

The City of Chester Swimming Club sent a team of 7 Swimmers to the Championships, the biggest number in recent years, competing in a multiple age-groups (Craig Prime, 25-29yrs; Chris Malpass, 30-34yrs; Joanne Morris, 45-49yrs; Clive Roberts, 45-49yrs; Colette Hayes, 55-59yrs; Brenda Walker, 70-74yrs; & Tom Walker, 75-79yrs). In summary the Swimmers collected an impressive 27 Gold Medals (Craig – 2, Chris – 4, Joanne – 3, Clive – 3, Colette – 4, Brenda – 6 & Tom – 5), 5 Silver Medals (Craig – 1, Joanne – 1, Clive – 1, Colette – 2 ) and 1 Bronze Medal (Craig).

On Top of the Super Medal Count the Swimmers also broke 15 North West Regional Records (Craig – 1, Chris – 3, Joanne – 1, Brenda – 5 and Tom – 5), 3 British Records & 1 European Record (all from Tom). The meet ended on a high with Tom Walker being awarded the Top Male Swimmer of the Meet for breaking a British Record by the biggest margin.

All the swimmers were extremely pleased with there swims and the Club is very proud of the Swimmers, the club wishes all the Swimmers the best of luck over the next few months in the run up to the Cheshire Master’s Championship in September and the National Master’s Championships in October.
