North Midlands 2009 Championships Report
The City of Chester Swimming Club was well represented at the 2009 North Midlands Swimming Championships with the sixty swimmers who entered winning 21 gold, 18 silver and 13 bronze medals together with a further 91 finishes in the top eight.
All the swimmers performed very well securing many personal best times and demonstrated a good level of commitment and enthusiasm. However, with so many swimmers involved in the competition, it will be difficult to mention them all. The highlights are in the 11 and under category Simon Ellershaw won three gold, one silver and one bronze medal with Alex Slater and Molly Fisher being the only other medal winners with a silver and a bronze respectively. The twelve to thirteen year age group produced the largest medal haul with the successful swimmers being Sophie Armstrong one gold; Daniel Hussey two gold and two silver; Nicola Ball 10 gold and two silver; Lucy Doherty three silver and one bronze; Rebecca Eaglesham one silver and Georgina Roberts two bronze. In the fourteen to fifteen age group, the medal winners were Will Slater one gold, three silver and two bronze; Alice Howarth one silver; Paula Clethro three bronze and Tom Lee two bronze. Medal winners in the sixteen and over age group were Alice Little four gold and one silver; Holly McCann two silver; Sam Richards one silver and Nic Canfield one bronze. The other major result was in the Ladies 100 backstroke where Nicola Ball secured her first National Qualifying Time.
Overall the performances were very good given that the competition was so close to the Swimmers’ restarting training after their Christmas break. Expectations are high that the Club will do even better in the Cheshire County Championships in late March.
