Chester Masters Swimmers take World Titles

City of Chester swimmers Brenda and Tom Walker who train at the CITY BATHS have just competed in the World Masters Swimming Championships in Gothenburg Sweden.

There were over 6 thousand participants from all over the world in the seven day event which was held in two 50m. pools, one indoor one outdoor with men and women switching pools each day.

In her third year in the 70-74 age group Brenda became WORLD CHAMPION in the 200m. and the 50m. backstroke, both events in the outdoor pool in heavy rain. She gained a SILVER MEDAL in the 100m. backstroke and came 6th in the 200m. freestyle in a field of 26 swimmers, and had 2 fourth places in relay teams.

Tom, in his first year in the 75-79 age group, also became WORLD CHAMPION in two events, the 100m. and the 200m. breaststroke. He took SILVER MEDAL in the 50m. breaststroke BRONZE in the 200m, backstroke and 5th place in the 200m. individual medley.
