Over 90 swimmers, of 8 years of age and upwards from City of Chester Swimming Club, took part in the first gala of the new season at their home pool City Baths during September. There were over 20 events over 4 days. The races were very popular and very well attended with some loud cheering from the many spectators on the balcony!

The events were 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500m in the various strokes of Freestyle, Back Stroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly and 200 Individual Medley, for both and boys and girls of different age groups

14 club records dating back from 1995 were broken by some of the swimmers., including older swimmers Kyle Stubbs and Lauren Goodfellow. Not to be outdone those swimmers 12 and under breaking records were Jessica Graham, Leah Gough, Millie Riddick, Georgia Williams, and Conor Hone.

The 8 and 9 year olds competing, many at their first gala were Phoebe Townsend, Molly Bullock, Jessica Graham and Noah St Hill.

In 10 year olds were Anya Bertram, Abi Goodfellow, Gemma Davies, Lucy Greenwood, Jessie Griffiths, Nicole Edge, Chloe Fahmy, Millie Murray, Katie Ford, Ellie Thackray, Jessica Hall, Connor Hone, Ben Taberner, Sam Hair, Owen Reynolds and Joe Hutcheson.

Competing in the 11 year old girls and boys were Anna Banim, Harriet Alexander, Leah Gough, Millie Riddick, Josie Hart, Molly Brennan, Rebecca Pemberton, Emily Veitch, Alexandria Martin, Jasmine Yeoman, Isabel Gelder, Megan Duffy, Emilia Stewart, Gemma Sothall, Sophie Palgrave Neath, Megan Partington, Ashleigh Peffer, Alice Hewitson, Catriona Drew, Alice Hewitson, Christopher Hooper, Thomas Rowlands, Jacob Brophy, George Macfarlane, James Dring, and Edward Campbell.

Lucy Osborne, Olivia Durnall, Sophie Clarkson, Emily Davies, Fiona Edge, Amber Disley, Grace Miniom, Mia Loftus, Georgia Williams, Francesca Cosme, Caleb St Hill, James Campbell, Jason Williams, Sean Thomas, Brandon Jones, James Sleddon Platt and Eammon O’Connell swam in the 12 year old events.

In the 13 years saw Anna Plunkett. Laura Fell, Paige Cox, Claudia Miller, Charlotte Hopwood, Paige Cox, Kasia Nowakowska, Katherine Craig, Kelly Davies, Natasha Groome, Emily Titlow, William Brown, Alan Prossor, Oliver Tobin, Thomas Townsend, Luc Sebastian-Jarzynski and Alex Hackett,

Swimming for the 14 year olds were Hannah Roberts, Eleanor Shields, Simon Ellershaw, Kyle Stubbs, Harry Fleetwood, Lewis Franks, Benedict Jenkins, Matthew Johnson, and Henry May.

In the 14 and overs were Katy Morgan, Lauren Goodfellow, Lucy Davies, Amy Fell, Laura Davies, Rachel Stevens, Matthew Breen, Jack Edwards, Alex Jenkins, and John Knott.

The swimmers attained numerous personal best times many of which were due to their new season training.

New Head Coach Mike Richards Price was very impressed with the improvement in technique that all the swimmers achieved and the number of club records broken. He said it was good to see some younger swimmers also attempting their first gala, and added that he was looking forward to the new season.

The club has a hectic season ahead of them with many galas already entered in North Wales and North of England including Swim Conwy, Cheshire Graded and Sheffield B grade both in November and Manchester Snowpen in December. The club also enters a team for the National Arena league with heats held this autumn.,
