Cheshire Championships 2011 Report

Over the last two weekends in March, City of Chester have been on form with 36 swimmers competing in the Cheshires at Stockport and Macclesfield. The standard was very high but the swimmers out shone many of their competitors, achieving 4 national, numerous regional and personal best times.

15 year old Lucy Doherty came away with 2 golds and 1 silver medal all times being national qualifying times, all for back stroke. Lucy’s 200m backstroke was a Cheshire Championship record time. Not to be out done   Nicola Ball also gained a national qualifying time again for 200m back stroke.

12 year old Isabel Thwaite won top girl award for her 3 gold-all freestyle, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals and 4 other top 6 finishes. Followed in third place by Jessica Feely with  2 gold, and 1 silver medals, plus 3 other top 4 finishes.

In the 9 year old section competing for the very first time was Thomas Rowlands and Millie Riddick who both swam well in 50m events.

Caleb St Hill competing in the 10 year olds achieved 2 gold medals for 50 and 200m breast stroke plus 3 other top 6 finishes. Georgia Williams and Joe Salisbury also gained ground on some impressive personal best times in 50m and 200m races.

Oliver Tobin representing the 11 year olds achieved 2 bronze medals in 50 and 200m freestyle with 4 other top 6 finishes. Charlotte Hopwood swam well in 50 and 100m breast stroke gaining personal best times.

Competing in the 12 year old events were Laura Fell, Hannah Roberts, Harry Fleetwood and William Brown all gaining competitive personal best times. Simon Ellershaw also 12 achieved 2 top 4 finishes.

In the 13 year age group were Lucy Davies, Lauren Goodfellow, Katy Morgan, Matthew Breen, Jack Edwards and John Crawford. They gained a number of regional and personal best times. Amy Fell, Laura Davies and Molly Fisher all swam well in the fourteen year age group.

The fifteen and overs included Georgina Roberts, Rachel Stevens,  Alice and Lizzie Little, Ian Prossor, Dan Morgan, Jack Fleetwood, Alex Jenkins and Tom Frost. They registered a high percentage of regional qualifying and personal best times between them.

In the relay races the teams also gained a further haul of medals with the 12 year old and under girl team coming second in 200m freestyle, and third in the 200m medley whilst the same age boys came third in the 200m freestyle and third in 200m medley. The fifteen and sixteen year old girls came third in the 200m freestyle and also third in the 200m medley.

Back
