David Burgham receives Aquaforce Long Service Award

Having already been awarded the North West Region award, David Burgham’s name was put forward for the ASA Aquaforce volunteer awards and was successful in being awarded the ASA Aquaforce Long Service Award 2012. This award recognises those individuals who have volunteered for 25 years or more.

David was nominated by the Club’s Welfare officer – Mrs Vicki Little who wrote…… ".. David has been associated with the City of Chester Swimming Club, the ASA and RLSS for over 40 years. Not only has the COCSC benefitted from David’s inspiration and enthusiasm, but Chester and the North West Region have also reaped the benefits with David becoming an ASA official and referee.

For more than 25 years David has held various voluntary positions on the club’s executive committee as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary. David is very much a team player, actively involved on poolside with young swimmers at galas as he is behind the scenes ensuring the entire club’s necessary paperwork is up to date. David is instrumental in the clubs day to day running and success and can often be found in the club office weekdays and weekends. In 2007 he was the driving force of the club achieving it’s Swim 21 accreditation.

As a referee David promotes fair sportsmanship, helps build confidence, encourages and praises effort. Through his vision he has been able to recruit parents to volunteer and he supports their training for official roles. David has always been the first person to volunteer to help solve problems at the club regardless of how difficult a situation might be. David is an inspiration; his energy and commitment to COCSC and the ASA are endless."
