City Baths remain closed - update 24th April
Chester Swimming Association, who run the City Baths, have provided the following update:
The Engineer’s inspection has found that a significant amount of work is required in each pool. A contractor has been identified and has provided cost quotes to CWAC who will be funding the work. After consulting with their Engineer, CWAC have also agreed to fund the costs of pipe and valve work necessary for us to be able to refill the Pacific whilst work is done on the Atlantic.
The Pacific pool (the small pool) will re-open as soon as this pipe and valve work is done and the pool can be filled and heated. – Our best guess at the moment is that this will be in about 3 weeks time. Learn to Swim can then restart.
The Atlantic (the large pool with balcony) will remain closed until the work programme is completed and our best guess is that this pool could be re-opened by September. However this could change. Once the Atlantic work is complete and the pool re-opened, the Pacific will be closed for essential works to be completed there also. This should be a shorter closure – most likely about 3 months.
We will of course update you once we have more information.

Ellesmere Port New Pool Development
A consultation period lasting to the end of November has been opened for a planned Sports and Leisure Village at Ellesmere Port. This proposal includes a new pool where it was hoped that City of Chester, in agreement with Ellesmere Port, would hold galas and so circumvent the difficulties imposed by the ASA and their reluctance to accept times from our 25 yard pool. However, while the pool is eight lanes, it falls short as a competition pool due to limited spectator space and other required facilities for swimmers at poolside, marshalling, timing etc... In addition it is not the 50m pool that was originally proposed and hoped for.
Go to http://www.sinkorswim.org.uk to view a website setting out the Ellesmere Port club view.
The club would encourage all swimmers, members, and parents to have a look at these proposals and complete the questionnaire that is the main feedback for the consultation. Links to both the information and to the questionnaire are below.
